There came a lady a-walking

Kåre Holt

There came a lady a-walking
Up on the mountain so blue
Trailing behind her a young man
Soon by her side it is true.
Once in times long, long ago
before the town was e'en born
The mountain stood bathed in the fire
In the light of a summer morn.
They came one summer a-sailing,
Over the mountain so blue
Man's-road goes on forever.
Man's road is ever new.
Razed to the ground house and home
In a battle far far away,
New temples rose from the ashes
We raise them still today.
Over the sea he travelled
To the unfriendly shores in the west,
Came back one day to his homeland
And the lady that he liked the best.
Children shall bless your union,
To woman is man always in thrall.
Great are you ancient Tunsberg
but love is the greatest of all.
There came a lady a-walking
Up on the mountain so blue
Trailing behind her a young man
Soon by her side it is true
Children shall bless your union
To woman is man always in thrall
Great are you ancient Tunsberg!
But love is the greatest of all.
